“Artificial is the new authentic”
Bartholot is a visual artist creating ephemeral sculptures eternalized with digital photography. His work preserves and protects the authenticity of his subjects, he is their guardian. He hovers on their surface, barely touches, suggests and surprises, and thus liberates his viewers and his subjects. They are there but not there at the same time, present and absent, absently present.
Bartholot’s work are carefully crafted compositions. They are minimalistic and stylized, focusing on aesthetics, textures, colours and appearances. They can be absurd, surreal, playful, disturbing and humorous, but are always unexpected.
In a world where authenticity and transparency is pursued by over-sharing, the artist, just as the subjects in his work, is refreshingly absent.
